Description87/100
Use when the user asks to find or look up a monday.com board, item, doc, dashboard, folder, workspace, update, or timeline item by name or keyword. Search within monday.com platform. Supported searchType values: BOARD, DOCUMENTS, FOLDERS, WORKSPACES, UPDATES, ITEMS, TIMELINE_ITEMS, DASHBOARDS. searchTerm is the phrase the search matches against — the text/keywords to look for (e.g. a board name, item title, or a word from an update). It is required and must be non-empty. This tool has no "list everything" mode: to browse or list without a search phrase, use workspace_info (boards/docs/folders in a workspace) or get_board_items_page (items in a board) instead of calling search with an empty searchTerm. For searching/listing specific users and teams, use list_users_and_teams tool. For account-level info (plan, member count, products), use get_user_context tool. For browsing all boards, docs, or folders within a workspace without a search term, use workspace_info tool. For groups, use get_board_info tool. For listing items within a specific board, use get_board_items_page tool. ITEMS search here queries items across the account. BOARD search returns id, title, url, description, workspaceId, and creatorId. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds and/or boardIds. DOCUMENTS search returns id, title, workspaceId, and highlights. highlights is an array of { field, fragments } entries (field is "name" or "content") where fragments contain matched text snippets with <em> tags around matched terms. highlights is omitted when no lexical match was made. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds and/or docIds. ITEMS search returns id, title, url, boardId, and workspaceId. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds, boardIds, creatorIds, personIds, teamIds, and/or statusLabels. personIds and teamIds check every people column of the item; statusLabels checks every status column. All provided filters must be satisfied (AND); values within one filter are alternatives (any of). WORKSPACES search returns id, title, description, kind, and state. UPDATES search returns id, title (the update body), itemId, boardId, creatorId, createdAt, and updatedAt. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds, boardIds, and/or creatorIds. TIMELINE_ITEMS search returns id, title, summary, content, type, productKind, itemId, boardId, createdAt, and updatedAt. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds, boardIds, itemIds, timelineItemType, and/or timelineProductKind. DASHBOARDS search (also called "overviews") returns id, title, workspaceId, kind, state, creatorId, createdAt, and updatedAt. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds, creatorIds, and/or overviewKinds. FOLDERS search returns id and title. Optionally scope it with workspaceIds, which searches all accessible workspaces when omitted. Pass workspaceIds to narrow the search if results may be truncated. Every searchType except FOLDERS accepts dateRange to filter by creation and/or last-update date. Use short, keyword-based search terms: most terms must match, so extra words cut results. Prefer several focused searches over one long one. Pass strategy "SPEED" first, and raise it to "BALANCED" or "QUALITY" only when SPEED returns no or clearly irrelevant results.
The description explains the capability, when to use it, and what to expect.

Remove validation rules already expressed in this field’s schema; describe its meaning and usage instead.
searchTerm
The search phrase — the text the search matches results against (e.g. a board name, item title, or keywords). Required and must be non-empty. This is NOT a filter or an id — pass the words to look for. searchTerm is required and must be a non-empty search string. To browse or list without a search term, use workspace_info (for boards, docs, and folders in a workspace) or get_board_items_page (for items within a specific board).

searchType
The type of search to perform. Valid values: BOARD, DOCUMENTS, FOLDERS, WORKSPACES, UPDATES, ITEMS, TIMELINE_ITEMS, DASHBOARDS.

limit
The number of items to get. Maximum is 20.

strategy
Search strategy, trading result quality against latency. SPEED: keyword matching only — no semantic retrieval, no reranking; fastest. BALANCED (used when omitted): keyword and semantic retrieval fused together. QUALITY: BALANCED plus AI reranking of the results; slowest. Start with SPEED and escalate to BALANCED, then QUALITY, only when it returns no or clearly irrelevant results. Every strategy — SPEED most of all — favors short, keyword-based search terms: most terms must match, so extra words cut results. Prefer several focused searches over one long one. Applies to BOARD, ITEMS, DOCUMENTS, UPDATES, DASHBOARDS search; ignored for other searchTypes.

workspaceIds
Array of workspace IDs (numbers) to search in. Optional for FOLDERS search (searches all accessible workspaces when omitted). For ITEMS, BOARD, DOCUMENTS, DASHBOARDS, UPDATES, and TIMELINE_ITEMS search, only pass this if the user explicitly asked to search within specific workspaces. Example: [12345, 67890].

boardIds
Array of board IDs (numbers) to scope the search to. Applies to BOARD, ITEMS, UPDATES, and TIMELINE_ITEMS search. Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to search within specific boards. Example: [12345, 67890].

creatorIds
Array of user IDs (numbers) to filter by creator. Applies to ITEMS (filters by item creator), UPDATES (filters by update author), and DASHBOARDS (filters by dashboard creator). Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to filter by specific creators. Example: [12345, 67890].

personIds
Filter (ITEMS only): user IDs (numbers). Matches items with any of these users assigned in any of their people columns — every person and team column of the item is checked, not one specific column. At most 50 unique IDs in total across personIds and teamIds. Values are alternatives (any of); all provided filters must be satisfied (AND). Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to filter by assigned people. Example: [12345, 67890].

teamIds
Filter (ITEMS only): team IDs (numbers). Matches items with any of these teams assigned in any of their people columns — every person and team column of the item is checked, not one specific column. At most 50 unique IDs in total across personIds and teamIds. Values are alternatives (any of); all provided filters must be satisfied (AND). Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to filter by assigned teams. Example: [12345].

statusLabels
Filter (ITEMS only): status labels (e.g. "Done", "Stuck"). Matches items where any of their status columns has one of these labels — every status-type column of the item is checked, not one specific column, including columns titled e.g. "Label" or "Priority", which are status columns too. Whole-label match, ignoring case. At most 10 labels. Values are alternatives (any of); all provided filters must be satisfied (AND). Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to filter by status. Example: ["Done", "Stuck"].

docIds
Array of document IDs (numbers), as they appear in document URLs, to scope the search to. Applies to DOCUMENTS search, with at most 512 ids. Use it to search within a known set of documents, for example to find which of them mention a term. Only pass it if the user explicitly asked to search within specific documents. Example: [12345, 67890].
